Costume Design Presentations

During the pandemic, I found slide presentations to be a valuable form of communication across time and space, in person or digital. They also clearly show my sense of process, from research and color inspiration to colorwork and design.

American Mariachi | Play with Music

Family, love, and tradition are at the core of this heartwarming play about the freedom to dream big. It’s the 1970’s and girls can’t be mariachis… or can they? As Lucha and her spunky cousin hunt for bandmates, dodge disapproving relatives, and bring Mom along for the ride. This play is infused with vibrant, infectious live mariachi music and reminds us how music and love can make the impossible come true.

Party People | Musical

A kinetic mix of poetry, jazz, blues, hip-hop, boleros, salsa, and storytelling based on interviews with members of the Black Panther Party and Young Lords Organization. Party People is a dynamic musical that illuminates the complex legacy of these revolutionary movements, and the potential for cross-cultural coalitions to bring power to the people.

El Otro Oz | Musical

A Mexican musical adaptation of The Wizard of Oz. As her fifteenth birthday approaches, Dora, a contemporary, Latiné teenager, struggles with her family’s idea about tradition and dreads her impending quinceañera. But, when Dora gets swept away to a strange new land, she learns how to celebrate her unique rhythm and embrace her cultural identity.

Anna in the Tropics | Play

In 1929, a handsome lector arrives at one of the last Cuban cigar factories in Tampa to entertain the workers while they hand-roll cigars. But when the lector begins reading Anna Karenina, the passionate, frustrated lives of the characters in the book begin to parallel those of the listeners, leading to jealousy, betrayal and sexual awakening.

This production will mark the first opera by a Black composer to be produced by university productions.
